Interstate Gambling Treaty
Since January 1, 2008, the Interstate Gambling Treaty applies in Germany. It states that gambling may be offered exclusively by the state and/or by state-organized facilities. The goals of the Gambling Treaty are:
- To prevent the development of gambling addiction
- To limit gambling offers
- To provide an outlet for gambling
- Compliance with child protection and protection of gamblers
- Guarantee of fair gambling
- Protection against fraud
Online gambling is prohibited in Germany by the Gambling Treaty! This prohibition has been in effect without exceptions since January 1, 2009.
